The Emperor – Protective Boundaries

The Emperor, JvSo today, I’m back with the wondrous Joie de Vivre Tarot

And who should appear but the rather wonderful Emperor, swiftly followed by my old friend, the King of Coins.

So, its all about boundaries and with these two illustrious gentlemen stealing the show, I’d say today’s message is about respect: for other people’s property and of course, their physical being.

We hear so much about personal freedom, don’t we, but we must also be aware of how our choices affect others.

The Emperor is there, like the Father God, who protects us all, the weak and the strong.  He looks out for us all and his boundaries are those of kindness, of good judgment, of wise choices and of charity.

King Coins, JVThe King of Coins echoes this in his worldly way.  He will fiercly protect his own with fearlessness and courage, all the while aware that he must also have a wider perspective.  His kingdom is the earth and all its children.

Card of the Day: Five of Pentacles

My card of the day is drawn from one of my own cherished decks; my interpretation comes from my intuition and my experiences as a professional tarot reader.

When I read, I add to my experience of the Tarot so the journey unfolds, an evolutionary process. Perhaps my reflections will add something to your own understanding of this mystical and ancient craft. Brightest Blessings

Card of the Day from the Joie de Vivre Tarot by Paulina Cassidy

King Swords, Seven Coins cropMy card of the day is drawn from one of my own treasured decks; my interpretation is drawn from my intuition and from my many years of experience as a professional tarot reader.

Each time I read in this way, I add to my own experience of the arcana, the journey is evolutionary. I hope that my reflections will add something to your own understanding of this mystical and ancient craft.

More cards from the Joie de Vivre Tarot

Today I drew the King of Swords, he’s appeared several times lately, so I think I haven’t been listening!

Card of the day

King of Swords is the master of logic – the Mr Spock of the Tarot world!

Like all other kings, he has achieved mastery of his suit.  He is reasoned and balanced.  Although he has emotions, they do not rule him.

His intellect is his weapon of choice, which he prefers to use in a reasoned manner.  His arguments are always well considered and he is a formidable opponent in debate; you will find him very much at home in a court of law.  He is scrupulously fair and will always go out of his way to find the most equitable solution to a problem.

He carries on his arm a companion, perhaps to remind him that weaker individuals depend on his sense of justice and his wisdom.

I needed a pointer to demonstrate how the king’s wisdom might guide me today.

Card of the day0002

Seven of Coins shows us how we might use this king’s skills.

The crop in the image looks almost ready to harvest, but the fruit does not fall from the tree just yet, it is not quite ripe. It is important not to hurry at this point; this project needs a little more time to mature, if it is to provide sustainable growth and an impressive harvest.

We must invest in our current situation with a renewed sense of purpose.  Being thoughtful, keeping our wits about us and relying on professional guidance if necessary will bring the rewards we seek.

I am reminded that we must continue to challenge ourselves, checking our thought processes and business practices , so that we act always with integrity and honesty.

The coins are about finances; patience and objectivity, along with the highest ethical standards and careful attention to legal nuances should achieve a successful outcome.

Mother’s Day spread, featuring the Joie de Vivre Tarot by Paulina Cassidy

My cards today are drawn from the Joie de Vivre Tarot. As this was a gift from my son for Mother’s Day, it seemed a good choice to create a spread in honour of my own Mum, now in Spirit.

I always read from one of my own decks; my interpretations are drawn from my intuition and from my many years of experience as a professional tarot reader.

Each time I read in this way, I add to my own experience of the arcana, the journey is evolutionary, each card reveals a different message each time I read it. I hope that my reflections will add something to your own understanding of this mystical and ancient craft.

It is with joy I give you my new spread, the Gift of the Mother.

I laid 6 cards, which I read in the following way.

What is the most important thing I learned from my mother?  The Devil Card of the day0007I laughed when I drew this image – its so absurd, and one thing you and I shared was a sense of the absurdity of life.  You told me you laughed me into the world (your doctor told dirty jokes throughout your labour) and we laughed together all through my childhood and adolescence.

The Devil in my card assumes the manic grin he wears hides the face of despair shown upon his hat.  He mistakenly believes he controls his dancing marionette, who is happily moments away from freeing himself, cutting the cords that bind him even as he dances.

I guess this is what the image is all about: taking control of our own destinies, freeing ourselves even when it seems we are tightly bound.  The puppeteer is chained to a treasure chest, reminding us of the dangers of tying ourselves to the illusions of wealth and holding onto false values.  I like to think that you taught me what is truly valuable, for growing up we had little in the way of luxuries and yet we felt infintely loved and cherished.  As an adult I still feel that family and friends are the most important treasures that we can know.  These things cannot be held by chains but only with love and tender care.

What is my mother’s greatest quality?  StrengthCard of the day0008

You were one of the strongest people I ever knew.  Perhaps not in the physical sense, for you were small of stature, but growing up beneath your protection you seemed fearless.

Strength is about that inner reserve we draw upon when physical strength is not an option; when we meet a force stronger than ourselves.  This is the strength of women all over the world: mighty women who stand fiercly in the face of the hurricane and say: you will not take my child.  It is the strength of love and there is nothing stronger.

What gift did I inherit from her?  Ace of CoinsCard of the day0006

Here is the seed of prosperity and the endless possibilities of the future.

I grew up with a deeply held belief that I could do anything, be anything, achieve anything, provided I believe in myself.  I know with unshakeable certainty that I control my own destiny.  Every day, I value this gift, for however many times I fail, I still trust in my own potential and my ability to thrive.

What feelings do I need to release?  3 SwordsCard of the day0005

This is a card of such immense grief that no amount of tears will ever ease its pain. Perhaps better to acknowledge this and release it to the wind, for holding onto it is such a very great burden.

It is the pain of missed opportunities of course and because they are swords they are in the realm of the mind.

I sometimes feel that a thief stole you away, Mum.  You were sick for a long time before you finally passed on to your next road in spirit: I sometimes felt you had left already.  Did I remember on all those visits when you were less than yourself, to tell you how proud I was of you, and your courage?  How much I loved you?

Three candles remind me of the light at the end of every tunnel.  Hold a light up to your feelings: acknowledge them and then agree, that the past is gone, we cannot change one bit of it.  But the future is still to behold, if we face it with courage and allow the past to remain in the past.  I must learn from my past failings.  Mum, I can hear you say to me now:

“Do your best, that is all anyone can ask of you.  And if you fail, try again tomorrow.”  Tomorrow I shall try harder, Mum.

What am I grateful for?  King of CoinsCard of the day0003

Above all, you taught me to show gratitude and respect for what I have.  I am most certainly grateful for my life, which you gave me.  I am grateful for good health and a sunny disposition which helps me see the best in people.  I am not so much a glass full kind of gal, but a glass overflowing kind!  I do think my life is blessed.  I have a wonderful strong and generous man by my side – my rock and my soul mate.

A heart is etched in the soil beneath the King of Coins’ feet.  So I am reminded that I am grateful to you Mum for bringing me into the world on St Valentine’s day!  I think it inspired me as I grew up to value love above everything else.

What do I miss most about you?  DeathCard of the day0004

What a curious card to turn up in this position.  But of course, its not.  For what I truly miss is your physical presence Mum.  I miss you so much, every day.  I miss you in every way – the shoulder to cry on, the listening ear that never, ever judged my motives, the pride in my smallest and greatest achievements, the shared sense of humour, the intangible quality of mother-daughter.  Growing up, I imagined I could never exist without you in my life.  Of course, I live on and its a wonderful life.  Its the life you gave me.  But I do miss your presence in it.

But, I know that you travel on, somewhere in some dimension, you journey forward on your own unique road, for you love to travel.  You are among the stars and the rainbows: you dance on the wind, freely and without physical burdens.  And that is how I console myself, when I miss your physical presence so much that I could weep.  For you journey onward, gloriously and without fear, as always.

Card of the Day: 49, King Pentacles, Crystal Visions

Card of the day0010

My card of the day is drawn from one of my own treasured decks; my interpretation is drawn from my intuition and from my many years of experience as a professional tarot reader.  Each time I read in this way, I add to my own experience of the arcana, the journey is evolutionary.  Perhaps my reflections will add something to your own understanding.

King of Pentacles: Crystal Visions Tarot by Jennifer Galasso

King Pentacles sits, majestic and completely at ease in his world of green

His oneness with nature is reflected in his clothing, also green.  His throne is part of an ancient tree – he seems almost part of it – perhaps he is part tree, part man.

Around him stand beautiful crystals, still in the earth from which they have grown.  The king of earthly abundance takes only from the earth that which he needs, he is not wasteful although his world overflows with bounty.

He wears a simple crown of antlers and greenery, his royal sceptre a glowing crystal point atop a simple wooden staff.

He is the High King of the Minor Arcana; he represents both prosperity and wisdom.  He has worked through the challenges of youth, the fire of his passions, his heartbreaks and rejoicings and now he comes to the winter of his life, serene, aware, comfortable in his own skin, one with his earthly relations.

In our earthly race towards achievement, we tend to measure success in terms of financial wealth.  We are taught that Pentacles represent money, and indeed they may – at times – do just that.

But they are more than that, for there are many ways to be prosperous and sometimes the simple things are – truly – the most important.

In what way can you appreciate the abundance in your life today?

For surely, if we are healthy, loved and have a place of rest and warmth, then we are rich indeed.

Card of the Day: 48, 9 Pentacles, Crystal Visions Tarot

Card of the day00099 Pentacles,  Crystal Visions Tarot by Jennifer Galasso

Such bounty, such attainment, clearly this woman is successful and accomplished.

Isn’t this what we all wish for?

Surely this speaks of security and material comfort, elegant living, beautiful surroundings and a plentiful supply of good food.

Humming birds, symobolic of joy, flit prettily in the autumnal background.

There is certainly no negativity in this card, that I can see.

Of course, such comforts come with their own price. Well, did you imagine they would not?

Take for example, the gentle woman’s companion.  He is beautiful, rare and he is also dangerous.  Such companions are not to be toyed with.  They demand respect, faith and loyalty.

Is that all?

Well, it is autumn – look at the fruit on the trees, look at the sunset cast of the sky.  In autumn, the days grow shorter, the nights get longer and there is little time left before the wheel turns again into winter.

This is the long road; such happiness and harmony may take a lifetime to bring into reality, and always takes hard work and dedication.

What abundance are you working towards in your life?

Are you prepared to do what needs to be done to achieve your goals?

Can you Walk the Talk?

Blessed Imbolc

Merry Meet

The MaidenHere in the western hemisphere, Wiccans and Pagans of all paths will celebrate the turning of the year this weekend.  As the Crone becomes the Maiden once again, we welcome the coming of spring and all its promise.

We celebrate Imbolc as a time of birth and rebirth, as do our Christian friends who  celebrate Candlemas.

Whatever our spiritual paths, surely we can all feel the changing of the season – an underlying energy, an undenial hum of anticipation from the very earth Herself, as Her first shoots appear with the warming of the sun.

The first snowdrops show their faces to the world, along with crocuses and soon daffodils will follow.

The birds are flirting and all around we hear the chatter and chitter of the preparations for life.

In fact, Imbolc can be taken to mean ‘In the belly’, a literal reference to the ewes who already carry the lambs they will birth in the spring.

In the wider sense everything is pregnant with possibility in the spring – the Earth and all Her children, you and me included.  For we have nurtured our dreams and imaginings through the darkest days and nights of winter and now, as surely as spring comes we can bring those dreams forth.

What dreams will you bring into reality? What secret imaginings, what lost loves rekindled, what flights of fancy will you birth?

Think about it my friends, for there is magic in the air!
